Position Summary: 

The Senior Director, Campus Development, is responsible for effectively directing and managing a majority of ANGC strategic capital projects and initiatives, including meeting deadlines and budgets. Reporting to the Chief Planning and Operations Officer, the Senior Director, Campus Development shall facilitate the successful implementation of ANGC capital projects across multiple departments and areas within the organization. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of Campus Development staff with many business owners and stakeholders across a wide spectrum of the organization to ensure goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. The Senior Director manages the long-range campus master planning of ANGC projects while maintaining the strict confidentiality of all Club business.  The Campus Development department is a critically important service entity required to support capital improvements and physical plant/campus needs of the other departments within the organization.

Essential Functions of the Job: 

  • Accountable for the effective operation and fulfillment of KPIs for the Department. 

  • Ensures results for processes, programs, and projects are on time and within budget.

  • Accountable for driving leadership excellence, performance management, development of direct reports and team, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. 

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with both key external and internal stakeholders and achieving results through effective relationship management throughout the organization.

  • Accountable for forecast and budget management for the department, as well as effective allocation of department payroll.

  • Accountable for the financial lifecycle of capital projects, including initial estimating, benchmarking, vendor bidding and negotiation, budget preparation, charter submission, execution of contracts and change orders, and review of actual costs incurred.

  • Responsible for overall department strategy and allocating resources to accomplish agreed to initiatives.

  • Responsible for directing the internal and external design team’s servicing and reporting efforts to develop options for capital projects on behalf of ANI business owners/ELT members, the Executive Director, and/or the Chairman.

  • Responsible for oversight of all project management, project planning, construction management and financial accounting efforts rendered by the Campus Development staff throughout a project lifecycle.

  • Analyzes early states of project while under consideration to determine advantages and disadvantages.  Provides technical guidance and direction that facilitates the improvement of the concepts, designs, or flexibility of the projects.  Proactively escalates potential issues, resolutions, and improvements to CPOO and/or Business Owners/ELT. Provides early concept designs for Campus Development Team to further develop and debate based on written scope from Business Owner and/or Stakeholders.

  • Collaborates and works closely with all ELT and Senior Directors (department heads) to strategically forecast future needs of their areas, departments, and the organization at large.

  • Leads, organizes, and conducts scheduled and unscheduled collaborative meetings with ANGC directors, managers, and staff in order to communicate, document, and strategize on ANGC projects and initiatives (present and future).

  • Responsible for oversight of Campus Development team members who coordinate activities of exterior/outside the organization consultants and subject matter experts to include: space planners/designers, architects, interior designers, engineers across all disciplines, land planners, landscape architects, and a variety of specialty consultants required to complete ANGC projects and initiatives.

  • Direct and facilitate the cross departmental collective efforts on a variety of projects in which resources, staff, and internal ANGC design, cost estimating, civil engineering, project management and construction skill sets and capabilities can be utilized in lieu of outside contractors.  Coordination of this effort is led by CD team and the responsibility of the Senior Director, Campus Development.

  • Reviews and prepares weekly/monthly status reports for the CPOO as developed by project staff, outside vendors/contractors. Will modify and enforce schedules or plans as needed.

  • Responsible for contractor selection, bid normalization/comparison, and required contractor meetings during pre-planning and implementation processes within scope of responsibility for Campus Development Department and/or any special assignments as prescribed by CPOO, ELT, or ED.

  • In collaboration with internal and external counsel, oversees the drafting and administering of contracts to project vendors and professionals using approved Club procedure(s) and format(s). Additionally, reviews and approves/disapproves contractor and consultant pay applications and invoices within scope of responsibility. 

  • Maintains working knowledge of all real estate properties and parcels that might be desirable for campus expansion and future flexibility.

  • Provides Masters Tournament support to include tasks such as prescribed and approved by CPOO, Executive Director, and ELT.  Tournament Observations and improvements is primary responsibility during all ANGC major events (Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals, and The Masters Tournament).

  • Responsible for conducting weekly in-person field checks with construction teams on work in progress during various stages of project to ensure quality control and quality assurance.

  • Participates and reviews Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) Meetings to maintain current status awareness, resolve construction and design issues, determine who within ANGC organization needs consulted, and proactively raises questions/concerns.

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.

  • Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 25 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.

  • Required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and promotes the Mission Statement, Core Values, policies, procedures, and overall culture of the Club. Models these values and behaviors.

  • Establishes and maintains open communications with management and staff throughout the organization.

  • Initiates programs that promote the efficient use of in-house resources and outside vendors. Analyzes the results of these programs.

  • Prepares specialized project presentations and reports for ELT and management as directed.

  • Attend seminars and courses for continued professional growth and development.

  • Exercises complete confidentiality and discretion regarding the details and processes of ANGC projects.

  • Performs other duties deemed by senior ANGC management to be an integral part of the job.

Qualifications:

Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • Proficient in Construction Management; strategic planning & design, construction, project management, and financial management and stewardship.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Requires individual planning, prioritizing and time management skills to meet deadlines while working with multiple projects, all while having the ability to adapt to change

  • Efficient and demonstrated skills under short duration schedules and deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task with high attention to detail and accuracy in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Proficient and/or knowledgeable in computer software to include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, CADD software operations, and Sketch-up software, ProCore, Kahua, et al.

  • Working knowledge and thorough understanding of graphic scales and drawing types.

  • Familiar with sound business practices within the design/construction industry, the golf/sport industry and the service/hospitality industry.

Relative Experience/Education:

  • College degree required.

  • Ten (10)+ years of experience in project management, preferably in project management, construction management, or related industries and in managing a professional staff.

  • Familiarity with a golf course environment and the game of golf are preferred but not required.

Required License(s):

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program.

Projected Work Schedule:

Normal work hours are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and as work required.
