Following the UC3 tender process, Relevent NewCo was awarded the commercial rights to the UEFA men’s club competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Conference League) on a global basis for the 2027 to 2033 cycle. 

As such, Relevent NewCo is now seeking to build a truly world class business focused on the monetisation of these commercial rights.    

Role Overview 

Relevent NewCo’s Director of Media Sales is a key leadership position reporting to the Chief Media Officer. They will be responsible for driving the development of the global UC3 media sales strategy, executing deals, and leading the growth of the media rights sales function from the ground up. They will have a mandate to lead a best-in-class sales team, with four ‘Heads of Sales’ as direct reports. The Director of Media Sales will be tasked with leading the highest performing media sales team in the industry, consistently outperforming the market. 

The Director of Media Sales will be a key cultural pillar in a team characterised as collaborative, dynamic and visionary. They will act as an inspirational team leader, motivating the sales team to ensure the strongest possible performance. They will be a seasoned, personable executive, able to quickly build trust and cross-functional relationships. 

The Director of Media Sales will possess best in class broadcaster relationships and a deeply informed and nuanced perspective on the global media market, enabling them to hit the ground running in role. They will have a strong track record of driving significant media rights revenue across diverse markets. They will have a passion for football and be driven to contribute to the growth of the UEFA Men’s Club Competitions. 

The Director of Media Sales will be based in Relevent NewCo’s London office. Extensive travel will be required.  

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic Development & Execution 

  • Lead a multi-billion € media sales organisation, with responsibility for sales strategy development, defining timelines, and delivering industry leading media rights deals. 

  • Lead the development of a comprehensive short, medium and long-term media sales strategy for the organisation. 

  • Negotiate high value, innovative and industry leading media rights agreements globally, across 84 markets, with an initial focus on critical European markets. 

  • Drive negotiations and deal-making with broadcasters, digital platforms, and other media rights partners. 

  • Lead and manage robust tender processes in European markets, whilst identifying and securing innovative partnerships globally.   

Global Relationships & Market Intelligence 

  • Leverage an established network of global broadcasters, media rights holders, and digital platforms, to drive value for the organisation. 

  • Stay ahead of trends in the media landscape, including the rise of new platforms, shifts in broadcasting rights, and digital transformations. 

  • Possess strategic thinking and a long-term view on the global media landscape to ensure that Relevent NewCo is set up for sustainable long-term growth. 

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for media rights strategies, ensuring the organisation meets and exceeds revenue targets. 

Team Leadership & Collaboration 

  • Develop and manage a high-performing media rights team, with headcount based in London and internationally, that consistently outperforms the market. 

  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, including legal and finance, to ensure successful execution of media rights deals. 

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to team members, engendering a positive, collaborative, non-hierarchical workplace culture. 

  • Challenge the team to consistently strive for best-in-class results, driving revenue through negotiating market defining deals and closing upsell opportunities. 

Required Experience & Skills  

  • 10+ years of experience in sports media rights, with a proven track record of successfully negotiating media rights agreements. 

  • Deep and established relationships with broadcasters, content distributors, and digital platforms globally. 

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance high level vision and detailed execution. 

  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills and experience influencing and managing directly both junior and senior stakeholders. 

  • Proven team leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing colleagues. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners. 

  • Knowledge of the global media landscape, digital platforms, and emerging trends in media consumption. 

  • Ability to travel extensively and globally.

George Williams joined TurnkeyZRG in 2023 to lead the organization’s international expansion into Europe. Based in London, he brings over 15 years of executive search experience across Sport & Media. George will also work closely with ZRG’s Sucherman division to support its ongoing growth in the region. Prior to joining TurnkeyZRG, George was a Partner at Savannah Group, where he led and grew the organization’s Sport & Media Practice across Europe. He previously served at Odgers Berndtson as an Associate, supporting the launch of their Sports Practice and leading the delivery of multiple assignments.

Rick Alessandri - Managing Director, Media & Sports Tech

Rick Alessandri joined TurnkeyZRG in 2018 to help launch and grow the company’s media and tech search practice. Mr. Alessandri's vast network and 30+ years of industry experience have led to placements of Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s Regional Sports Network’s General Manager and SVP, Digital Media, Regional Sports Network, DAZN’s Chief Communications Officer and Vice President, Media, Major League Rugby’s Commissioner and C360 Technologies’ CEO to name a few. Prior to joining TurnkeyZRG, Rick held senior level positions with Univision as EVP, Enterprise Development and ESPN as Chief of Staff to ESPN President George Bodenheimer, CXO of the X Games and SVP of ESPN Enterprises.

Henry McCreery - Senior Associate

Henry McCreery joined TurnkeyZRG in early 2025 as a Senior Associate, based in London. Specialising in the global search for C-Suite and Board-level executives for high-impact roles, Henry leverages an extensive network developed through a history of working with prominent teams, leagues, and national and international governing bodies in the sport, media, and entertainment industry. In his role, he leads the delivery and execution of search processes and supports TurnkeyZRG's rapidly growing practice in the EMEA region.

Prior to joining TurnkeyZRG, Henry served as a Research Analyst in the Global Sports, Media & Gaming Practice at Odgers Berndtson. He holds a BA Hons degree in History and Politics from Newcastle University.

Paddy Hickey - Senior Associate

Paddy Hickey joined TurnkeyZRG in 2024 as a Senior Associate. Based in London, Paddy will focus on leading and executing cross-functional executive search processes for a broad range of clients in European sport, media and entertainment. Prior to joining TurnkeyZRG, Paddy was an Associate at SRI.

Paddy has a track record of identifying and placing top talent on behalf of clients that include rights holders, governing bodies, international sporting federations, Premier League football clubs and Formula 1 teams. His experience encompasses a broad range of functions, having built expertise in commercial, finance, legal, technology, HR and sustainability assignments. Placed candidates include sport industry veterans and high-impact talent from adjacent sectors.
