Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development

Reports to Deputy Athletics Director, Student-Athlete Experience


Basic functions: Building upon OU Athletics’ long held tradition of holistically developing student-athletes, this position is responsible for the curation and administrative oversight of a comprehensive program aimed at ensuring OU student-athletes are well equipped for life beyond intercollegiate competition. This includes but is not limited to specific area oversight of student-athlete experience, development, wellbeing, conduct, and accountability. The role partners with the Deputy AD for Student-Athlete Experience on a variety of department functions and areas all aimed at best positioning the student-athlete experience for success.

 Essential Functions: 

  • Oversee a first-class student-athlete development program that includes, but is not limited to, leadership development, internship and study abroad opportunities, personal growth, community engagement, and more

  • Foster and manage campus and community relations and partnerships for student-athlete development, acting as primary point of contact for all collaborations

  • Support Deputy AD in carrying out departmental directives for all things student-athlete development which includes working closely with other areas that impact the student-athlete experience such as: academics services, sports medicine, psychological services, nutrition, sports science and strength and conditioning, sports administration, and athletics housing 

  • Maintain expertise and awareness of the changing landscape of college athletics, creating innovative solutions and answers for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges that impact the student-athlete’s experience and wellbeing 

  • Establish and monitor benchmarks for tracking student-athlete wellness and development, and report results to executive leadership with suggested remediation and solutions, as appropriate 

  • Oversee roster management, gender equity, and Title IX compliance and strategize ways to support and manage this area while ensuring the department stays within compliance 

  • Serve as administrator of sports programs as assigned by the Director of Athletics 

  • Serve as collaborative liaison to all areas of oversight within the department and across campus, acting as the primary point of contact for student-athlete, coach, and sports program success efforts 

  • Manage special projects as assigned by the Deputy AD for Student-Athlete Experience and Director of Athletics 

  • Assist with other duties as necessary and assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

  • 5-7 years of similar and progressive experience 

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends 

  • Comply with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations 

  • Passion for the mission and values of OU Athletics

  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication 

  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills 

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of date and information 

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines 

  • Strong organizational, participation and facilitation skills 

  • Ability to understand new issues quickly and make informed decisions 

  • Ability to lead/manage people 

  • Ability to work independently 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree 

  • Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics
